MY SPECIALTIES

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Individual therapy remains one of the deepest and quickest ways to help adults move through life’s most challenging times. Therapy can be a place to slow down and protect time that is simply yours. I work initially from a psychodynamic perspective, meaning, that we take care to think through what is happening in the present moment and remain curious about formative years and prior experiences that consciously or unconsciously might be impacting your daily life. I then incorporate integrative attachment work to build insight into negative relational patterns, shift trauma informed relationships and work towards creating confident relational security with others and within yourself. Together we will create a proactive plan for lasting healing and change.

PARENTING

I continue to be amazed at the strength and resilience of the parents I work with. Parenting is designed to be triggering. We challenge ourselves to give gifts to our children that we did not get ourselves. We feel bad when we are reactive or imperfect and it so easy to feel lost, alone and judged. It is my goal to help parents find their way to being aligned with one another or within themselves. In our work together we will try to understand the meaning of your child's behavior to be able to respond to them more effectively. I strive to create an environment where parents can feel safe. We will work together to find new strategies to deepen reflective capacity, achieve a deeper bond with their child and come away from therapy with a plan that fits within your family culture.

REFLECTIVE PARENTING PROGRAM (RPP)

This parenting group is a 12-week, evidence based model, with the goal of developing practical tools for effective parenting, improving your child's behavior, improving the child-parent bond, increasing your self-confidence as a parent, and helping your child regulate emotions.

COUPLES

Couples often come to therapy when things feel impossible to bear. There can be built up resentments, old hurts and barriers to communicate. I work to create a space where couples feel like they can begin to trust and communicate more effectively with one another. My couples work is influenced by attachment theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

CHILD AND FAMILY THERAPY

Therapy for young children requires a different approach to that of individual therapy with teens and adults. Children experiencing emotional turmoil need intensive strategies and direct guidance in an effort to identify and name their emotions. It has been my experience that once a child can use their words to say how they feel, with their parents present, problematic behaviors begin to shift and the child/parent attachment bond strengthens. During our time together we will work as a team to help your child find safe and effective ways to express their biggest emotions.

Each session, we will work slowly and methodically to address your child’s anger, fear, grief and shame through play therapy. We will also use tools such as drawing and storytelling to contextualize their inner world and to give them a sense of mastery over their thoughts and actions.

Throughout these sessions, we will have time set aside so that the adults can check in regarding parenting and couple support. Setting limits with a child experiencing difficulties can be extremely challenging and exhausting. I want to make sure that you, as a single parent, couple and as people, feel supported, aligned and in charge. Together we will work to restore your child’s psychological health and your wellbeing as a family.

IVF STRESS REDUCTION AND SUPPORT GROUPS

Infertility is a road filled with stops and starts, punctuated by loss, and steeped in uncertainty. Having a place to process and explore, with clinicians who are familiar with this journey can be helpful, whether it’s sorting through all of the what ifs, trying to make sense of a new language, or working through the complex mix of emotions that come when things don’t go exactly as you planned.

In partnership with Rachael Bloom, LCSW, I offer a variety of support groups that cover topics including, but not limited to New to IVF - Getting Started, Primary Infertility, Secondary Infertility, IVF & Couples, Prolonged IVF Stress and Pregnancy Loss.

MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUPS

If you are experiencing depressed mood, anxiety, trouble sleeping or panic episodes, you may be going through a postpartum mood disorder, for which psychotherapy is one of the first lines of treatment. In partnership with Cynthia Rajchman, LMFT, I offer individual therapy as well as support groups where we explore your expectations and disappointments, your changing identity, and the impact of becoming a parent.
